San Clemente Palace Venice
A resort hotel on its own island in the lagoon, in a former monastery, with a pool, gardens, a spa and a free boat shuttle to San Marco.
Why people love it
- The island setting. Guests describe it as peaceful and quiet, with gardens, a small pool and a 15th-century chapel on the grounds.
- The boat shuttle. A free hotel boat runs about every 30 minutes, and guests say St. Mark's Square is a 10-minute ride.
- The staff. Alice, the restaurant hostess, and Sergio, who made cocktails, are thanked by name. One guest said the staff kept searching for a lost phone even after they left, and found it.
- Family stays. A mother who came with her husband and 4-year-old son said there was plenty for the whole family. Another guest mentions pizza and the pool.
- The spa. An August 2026 reviewer called the spa very high quality.
The worst thing guests say
Service and operations. Since 2022, about a dozen guests report problems such as running out of food at breakfast (two reviews in August 2025 when the hotel was nearly empty), a broken car mirror and a missed water taxi (May 2026), air conditioning trouble (May 2024), and rude reception staff when asking about a card hold (May 2025). In September 2026 a guest complained of poor pool supervision with children shouting and jumping in. Reviews from 2022 also criticize limited restaurants and the shuttle only going to San Marco.
Insider tips
- The shuttle goes to San Marco only, so check the schedule before planning evenings out.
- Food and drink prices on the island are high, according to a September 2026 guest.
- Ask about the airport transfer price before you book it.
