Palazzina Grassi
A Philippe Starck-designed hotel on the Grand Canal with an art-gallery style interior, a restaurant and a bar.
Why people love it
- Service by name. A guest in August 2026 said all the staff knew their names. Others mention the concierge and a kind gentleman at breakfast.
- Starck design. Guests describe rooms like staying in an art gallery with high-tech conveniences, and one says the Starck design alone is worth a stay.
- Location. Reviewers call it the best location to explore Venice, with Grand Canal views.
- Breakfast. A guest in August 2026 loved the breakfast every day.
The worst thing guests say
Air conditioning and noise. Two stayers report air conditioning that did not work in summer, in July 2025 (no refund offered) and July 2026 (which also mentions an awful bed and weak cleaning). In June 2026 a guest in room 103 heard a low washing-machine type noise, and another said the hotel felt a little worn down. Older reviews from 2020 and 2024 describe loud nightclub parties at the hotel during Carnival and events. Some visitors were turned away from the bar or told to dress formally.
Insider tips
- Visiting during Carnival or an event? Ask whether the hotel is hosting a party, because older reviews describe loud music until 4:30 a.m.
- Check that the air conditioning works when you arrive in summer.
- Ask for a different room if you hear a hum, as a guest in room 103 did.
