Grand Hotel Menaggio

A 4-star lakefront hotel in Menaggio next to the ferry dock, with a pool on the lake, two restaurants and a bar.

Why people love it

• The location. Guests say it sits right by the ferry pier and a short walk from the main square. One guest in a Prestige Room with a view could watch the ferries come in from the room.
• The pool and lake views. Reviewers describe the pool as right on the lake and good for a cool dip. Several mention the views from the balcony and from breakfast.
• Breakfast and dining. Breakfast overlooking the lake is called great or excellent by several guests. Two guests singled out Alex and Claudio for service at breakfast.
• Staff. Guests name the porter as helpful and cheerful. A couple celebrating their 25th anniversary and a honeymoon couple both wrote about attentive staff.
• Renovated rooms. Two recent guests say the new rooms are excellent and the older ones are rated lower.

Why they come back

"We came here twice before over the years..hotel has been refurbished beautiful it was by far the best 3rd time stay"

The worst thing guests say

Several recent stayers say the rooms and bathrooms are small or old, including a 2 ft by 2 ft shower, and two 1-star guests in July 2026 were unhappy with rooms priced at about €1,200 a night. One guest in August 2026 described the receptionist as unprofessional. Older stayer reviews raised more serious problems: ants in an upgraded room in August 2022, and mold in room 218 in August 2024. Another guest in August 2022 wrote of spiders and ants. No pests or mold appear in the 2026 reviews we checked.

Insider tips

• Book a renovated room rather than a standard one, as older rooms are rated lower.
• Ask for a lake or mountain view room.
• Light sleepers should ask about the street side, since a guest with a standard room mentioned a street view.
• Prices are high, so check what the room category includes before booking.
