Agriturismo La Vecchia Chioderia

A farmhouse restaurant with a trout farm and a few simple bungalow rooms along a stream above Menaggio.

Why people love it

• Trout menu. Guests describe lunches built around trout, with a starter of cured meats and cheeses. Some guests also had the cheese platter with jams and honey.
• The setting. Reviewers walk along the river or hike from Menaggio and describe greenery, running water and birds.
• Friendly staff. Hikers who stopped in describe the staff as friendly and polite, and one praised the Aperol.
• Price. Some guests call the price excellent, though others found portions small.

The worst thing guests say

Reviews are mostly from lunch visitors. Visitors from 2021 to 2023 said the menu is limited and the portions small, with one paying €16 for a second course. Among the few overnight guests, all in 2022, one found ants and cobwebs in the bungalow and a window that did not close, another said the room was cramped with no en-suite toilet or shower, 20 meters from the room, and another said communication was hard without Italian. One guest in May 2022 arrived with a booking and was turned away. We found no overnight reviews from 2023 or later.

Insider tips

• Rooms are separate bungalows, and bathrooms may be in another building.
• Speaking some Italian helps.
